Every child is unique, and each one has their own special way of learning. Children have been literally forced to try to learn by traditional means, one way of learning for the entire class. Rocketship Education is an innovative learning style that not only educates the students, they inspire communities, engage the parents in student learning, and empower the teachers to strive for excellence in teaching and leadership. The Rocketship Education System is a non profit network of public charter elementary schools. These schools are designed for children that live in low income to poverty leveled neighborhoods and do not have access to excellent, good quality schools. The students are given personalized lessons that are developed for their particular style of learning. Whether the student is a visual learner, learn best bu listening, or a kinetic learner, the teachers are prepared to offer the best plan for them. The teachers at Rocketship are backed by coaching professionals to give them the most modern and up to date learning techniques. They are given in house staff development and leadership training so that they can best serve the students.
At the Rocketship Schools, the students are called Rocketeers. Each Rocketeer has lessons that are tailored to their learning style, and targeted to meet their specific needs. The combination of tutoring, technology and traditional instruction allows each student to learn at their own pace. The Rocketship model finds that by having parents engaged in the learning process helps to eliminate the student achievement gap. Parents play an essential role in the blended model. Parents are the most powerful advocates for their children and community. They provide the leadership at home by being the positive role models, taking care of home and helping with homework. Parents are also leaders in the community by being in advocacy groups, and standing up for their children and their community. Rocketship started from the realization of a pastor who discovered that non of his young people in his parish were academically qualified to attend any college. After much work, the first Rocketship opened after 2006, in the Bay Area, California.
